Clip @ the Savoy Cinema

Nottingham's art deco cinema has inspired a Nottingham based dancer and choreographer to escape reality.

A new dance / video performance by Kerryn Wise, a Nottingham based dancer and choreographer, is set to transform Screen 1 of Nottingham's Savoy Cinema.

Clip draws upon the unique atmospheres of the beautiful, recently restored picture house and combines choreography and cinematography.

It will explore the notion of escape we all feel when visiting the cinema and ideas of the real and the virtual body. It's described as 'a once in a nighttime opportunity to experience the Savoy in a completely different light'.
CLIP combines contemporary choreography, original visuals and cutting edge soundtrack.

In brief
An empty auditorium on screen mirrors the real life Savoy seating. Dimly lit limbs appear from nowhere as the audience are transported to a world where cinema meets digital camera and velvet meets video. Three figures take their seats in a film ready to make the leap from screen to reality, whilst three live performers are searching for space on screen. Real and projected dancers jostle for attention until the lights go down and the curtain closes.

What she says
Kerryn says: "Clip was originally conceived as part of a dance4 event and was then developed at a dance laboratory in India, the performance is the culmination of two years work, and is a fantastic opportunity to bring my work to a new audience in Nottingham and respond to the unique atmospheres of the Savoy."
The piece is choreographed by Kerryn Wise in collaboration with dancers Tina Carter and Carly Annable.

The bigger picture
Clip is supported by Arts Council England, The Bonington Gallery and Nottingham Trent University. It's part of the Sensitive Skin Festival, a season of arts events ranging from the experimental to the obscure in the form of live art, performance, theatre and video installation works.
